If you are looking for a CTP, imagesetter or platemaker for your pre-press production room, Printer’s Parts and Equipment carries a wide range of makes and models to meet your needs, including Agfa, Creo, Kodak, Screen, ECRM, Fuji and more.

Recent technological advances have revolutionized the platemaking process and have left printers scrambling to keep up. Platemaking technology has advanced from a multi-step process of cameras, films, and platemakers to imaging directly on a plate with a computer-to-plate (CTP) system.

Current CTP systems primarily consist of thermal or violet laser technology and each have specific advantages and disadvantages over the other. Speed, plate cost, run length and maintenance are all factors which need to be considered when purchasing a CTP.

Popular models include Heidelberg’s Suprasetter line, supported and serviced by Heidelberg’s vast worldwide network. Screen PTR models including the 4300S and 8800 line are also in wide use with North American printers. The Kodak Creo Scitex are the same CTP branded under various names and consist of the popular Trendsetter line which has a large following in South America and overseas. Afga, one of the pioneers of CTP production, has built a successful line based around their popular Avalon models.

Buying a CTP is often a complicated and risky endeavor. Due to high costs for replacement lasers, it is imperative the buyer makes sure the equipment they are buying has low laser counts and will not require immediate service. Other factors to consider are which type of RIP and processor are included and which options such as auto loaders and gumming units are available with the CTP.

Printer’s Parts & Equipment is here to help provide guidance and information regarding your potential CTP purchase. We use trained technicians to inspect all units, determine laser hours and counts and ensure all lasers are professionally locked and loaded to ensure safe transport to your location.
